Check Your Parqet Portfolio in Public Without Revealing Your Net Worth
You are on a crowded train. You raise your wrist to check how your portfolio is doing, and the person standing over your shoulder can read your entire net worth off your Apple Watch. Or you pull out your iPhone, and the Lock Screen widget you set up so carefully is now broadcasting your six-figure total to everyone in the queue behind you.
If you track your portfolio with parqet.com, this is the quiet downside of putting your numbers everywhere you’ll actually see them: everyone else sees them too. PulseFolio’s latest update adds the fix — a Hide Total Value setting that lets you keep the glanceable signal you wanted without flashing the one number you’d rather keep to yourself.
This post is for the Parqet user who types hide portfolio value on apple watch or depot wert ausblenden into Google, not someone hunting for a brand they’ve never heard of. Here is exactly what landed.
What “Hide Total Value” does
Turn it on under Settings → Privacy in the iPhone app, and your portfolio’s total value disappears everywhere it would otherwise show up:
- the Apple Watch app
- your watch complications
- the iPhone Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets
The total — the absolute euro/dollar figure that is your net worth — is the part a stranger can read at a glance and instantly know how much you have. That’s the number that goes.
What stays visible
Everything that makes the glance worth taking:
- your return percentage for the selected period
- your gain or loss for that period
- the trend indicator, the sparkline, the magnitude-aware gauge
In other words, you still see how today went and which way things are moving — you just don’t broadcast how much you have. A percentage and a daily move tell a passer-by nothing about the size of your portfolio. The total tells them everything. Hiding only the total is the sweet spot: the wrist glance stays useful, your net worth stays yours.
Hide Total Value vs. Anonymous Mode
PulseFolio gives you two levels of privacy, for two different moments:
- Hide Total Value is the everyday setting. Leave it on permanently and you get the percentage-and-trend view in public without ever thinking about it.
- Anonymous Mode is the panic button. It hides everything — total, percentage, gain/loss, the lot — for the moments you’d rather show nothing at all. Flip it on when you hand your phone to someone, or when even a percentage feels like too much.
Use the first as your default and the second when you need it. They stack cleanly: Hide Total Value trims the sensitive number out of your normal day; Anonymous Mode blanks the whole thing on demand.
Privacy goes deeper than one toggle
Hiding the number on screen is only the visible half. The part you can’t see matters just as much: PulseFolio talks to Parqet through the OAuth 2.0 with PKCE flow that Parqet itself provides, so the app never sees your Parqet password. Your access token lives in the iCloud Keychain on your own devices. There is no PulseFolio server in the middle and no separate PulseFolio account to create. The total you just hid from the train carriage was never sitting on someone else’s machine in the first place.
How to turn it on
- Update to the latest PulseFolio from the App Store.
- Open the app and go to Settings → Privacy.
- Toggle on Hide Total Value. The change propagates to the Watch, your complications, and your iPhone widgets right away — no relaunch.
- Keep Anonymous Mode in your back pocket for the moments you want to hide everything.
That’s it. The next time you raise your wrist on the train, you’ll see exactly how you’re doing — and the person behind you will see exactly nothing worth reading.
Languages
Hide Total Value, like the rest of PulseFolio, is fully localized in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese — Watch app, iPhone app, complications, and widgets. The setting follows your iPhone’s language.
If you want more ways to keep your Parqet data close while keeping it yours, Parqet on Your Apple Watch covers watch complications and time tabs, and Parqet on Your iPhone Lock Screen walks through the Lock Screen widgets that this setting now protects.
PulseFolio is available on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch.
